How to Become a Dealer

Märklin, Inc. Distribution Policy

Märklin dealer Since our inception in 1980, Märklin, Inc., the North American subsidiary of Gebr. Märklin & Cie., GmbH, has sold through a network of authorized dealers.*

Märklin authorized dealers are select retailers who desire to carry a quality line of electric model trains and who are prepared to stock an adequate selection of starter sets, locomotives, rolling stock, accessories, and parts to fulfill the needs of the Märklin customer.

To apply for an authorized retail Märklin dealership, a dealer must submit a registration form, a picture of their store, and a credit application form. It is expected that the retail applicant will adhere to recognized business practices and observe advertised business hours. Upon notice of approval, a dealer must place a minimum opening order to activate their dealership.

Once the dealership is activated, it is listed as an authorized Märklin dealer on the Märklin, Inc. Website and also included on the authorized Märklin dealer listing in consumer advertising fulfillment packages. With their opening order, the dealer is sent an authorized dealer sign and other promotional point of purchase materials.

Premier Dealer Classification

Märklin Premier DealerThe Märklin Premier Dealer classification recognizes those retail dealers who have made an exceptional commitment to merchandise and service Märklin products.

A Premier Dealer's commitment is shown in the following ways:
  • Annual minimum Märklin purchase.
  • Stock a breadth of product in at least two or more product categories, i.e.: HO, Mini-Club, MAXI, Digital or Metall.
  • Promote the sale of Märklin products using three or more of the following activities:
    1. Have an in-store operating Märklin layout.
    2. Conduct an advertised in-store Märklin promotion.
    3. Utilize Märklin product display cases.
    4. Utilize Märklin "point-of-purchase" promotional materials.
    5. Include the Märklin logo in yellow page advertising.
    6. Utilize Märklin ad slicks in newspaper and/or magazine advertising.
  • Provide value added services to Märklin customers. Examples of these services include:
    1. Being an Authorized Märklin Service Center.
    2. Being a Certified Digital Dealer.
    3. Participating in the Märklin Exclusiv Subscription Program.
    4. Service to Märklin Club members.
The Premier Dealer designation is made on an annual basis. To identify these dealers, a Premier Dealer sign is given to each dealer to be prominently placed in their store.

  • In-store promotions with Märklin personnel provide consumers with hands-on experience and technical information.
  • Dealer merchandising and point-of-sale support.
  • North American Märklin Club keeps members up-to-date on new products, and releases special "members only" products sold only through authorized Märklin dealers.

*In addition to the Authorized Märklin Dealership and Premier Dealer classifications, there are accounts who do not sell in the traditional hobby and specialty toy retail distribution channels. Examples of these types of accounts include national catalog companies, national premium incentive companies, and specialty retailers. These type of accounts are not normally listed as either an authorized Märklin dealer or Premier Dealer.
